During my time in the Guanacaste Region of Costa Rica, I was amazed by the wonderful culture and the radiant world of color. From jungles to beaches, wildlife to stillness, this region has it all.

Why Guanacaste?
This region of Costa Rica is a great destination for people looking to have a lot of adventure in one place. Locals in Guanacaste are the best part of every adventure. Their signature saying, “Pura Vida”, is rooted very deeply in their lives, and it is evident. Joy and peaceful living radiate everywhere you go.
Punta Islita: Overview
Punta Islita was a great place for both the beach and wildlife. Not to mention the locals were very kind and joyful. This region’s peak visiting months are January to April, which are the hottest months of the year. So, if you plan on going during this time, bring LOTS of sunscreen. I rarely burn, and I never knew the sun could burn so badly! So, if you want to get your tan on, this is a great destination. Punta Islita is also full of rich culture. If you opt. to lodge locally, it is a great way to bridge cultural barriers and learn more about local customs. (Refer here to see more of their rich culture!)
Lodging
We opted for staying in a local condo with three rooms and a private pool (in this case, either have a driver or a rental car if you want to get around). Liseth, our Airbnb host, was magnificent in her service and accommodations at the Punta Islita Guayacán Real suite. Personally, this was a great lodging option because we got a feel for the local scene while also still having access to resort amenities. However, if you are under 25 keep in mind that you cannot purchase a rental car. Since Punta Islita is a ways away from the airport, you might want to consider having a trusted driver or travel guide for the duration of your stay if you plan to lodge outside of the resort.

Down the road from our lodging, I was befriended by a woman in the local market where we were invited to a wonderful breakfast with fresh chicharrones cooked right in front of you, homemade regional coffee, and “Desayuno Tipico”. It was lively and exciting with the richness of culture and “Pura Vida” that everyone should experience at least once! Also note that if you opt. to stay in local areas, you should be familiar with the customs and somewhat proficient in the local language.
However, if you are hoping for more of the luxury experience, the “Punta Islita Autograph Collection” is close to where we stayed. We were able to enjoy the ocean views, the wildlife, and the excursions the hotel had to offer. (Refer here for more information)

Excursions
No matter where you stay in Costa Rica, there is never a shortage of things to do and places to see. I will say it was easier to get the full experience of Costa Rica having a personal family friend or guide along the way. We got to experience a lot more of the fullness of the scenery and culture by having people to guide us in the best “to-dos”

Here are some MUST SEE places and great excursions:
- Parque Nacional Volcán Tenorio
- Jungle Tours near or off of Vía 6 (Jungle Regions)
- Playa Islita
- Surfing w/ Islita Surf School
- Horsebackriding
- Swimming
- Massages on the beach
- The Autograph Collection Adventures
